About Danny Dutton
Hey there,
Thanks for checking out my website. I’m Danny Dutton, and for those that don’t know me (and who are interested), here’s a brief outline of my entrepreneurial background.
After leaving school at 16, I bounced around from job to job doing mainly the things I enjoyed such as working with computers or fixing things.
Although I’ve alway been very industrious and enjoyed my work, I always (unintentionally) rubbed my managers up the wrong way. You see, I always viewed my employment as a two-way contract or partnership whereas my employers always seemed to think because they were paying me, they always knew better and wouldn’t listen to my ideas even when I guaranteed that I could increase the company’s profitability or reduce costs.
It seemed that as an employee, I was not allowed a voice and was not allowed an opinion and this frustrated me no end. I was even told at one point that if I could learn to shut my mouth from time to time, I’d be the perfect employee (which I must admit made me chuckle).
As an example, I once worked for a largish company that was very wasteful with it’s resources. I put together a plan and presentation which was proved beyond reasonable doubt to save the company hundreds of thousands of pounds every year for a small one-off investment of a little over ten thousand pounds. It was rejected and to this day, I still don’t know why. The answer I got from the executives was they’d used their old antiquated system for two decades so they saw no reason to change.
The example above was the last straw. Although I was perplexed and a little angry, as I walked out the boardroom I came to the realisation that although I knew the board had made a bad decision, it was their decision to make. If I wanted my ideas to be used and my opinions listened to, then I had to be the man at the top. And I wasn’t going to spend half my life brown-nosing at a company to work my way to the top, so there was only one thing for it…work for myself
So, I decide to start up my own website design company (Shore Dutton Internet Consultancy, although it’s recently been re-branded to DUTTONWEB). I decided early on to only work in partnership with like-minded people to avoid the master-slave relationships I’d experienced and detested in my corporate life. I developed my own set of rules to govern my business such as my PAH! principle, which states that if you can’t do something with passion, awesomeness and honesty, don’t do it.
My unique approach attracted the kind of clients I wanted to work with and every single project I’ve worked on has been a resounding success. Obviously, by limiting my market, I had time on my hands during quiet periods, so I used this time to create and market websites of my own. Over a couple of years, these websites started generating a residual income without me having to do very much work at all and gave me financial freedom. I’m not a millionaire (yet) but my business does allow me to live a very comfortable lifestyle.
